The push for more pipeline continues, with multiple projects announced and/or updated this month.
This month, multiple projects were announced and/or updated including a light oil pipeline that could help Bakken producers move crude through Cushing before a final destination near Houston.
Magellan Midstream Partners LP proposes the Voyager pipeline, and would include construction of nearly 500 miles of 20-in. line from Magellan’s terminal in Cushing to Magellan’s terminal east of Houston.
At the origin, the Voyager pipeline would provide shippers the option to begin deliveries at Cushing from Magellan-operated Saddlehorn pipeline serving the Rockies and Bakken production regions, Navigator’s Glass Mountain pipeline serving the Midcontinent basins, as well as other connections within the Cushing crude oil hub.
If built, the pipeline would move some 300,000 barrels per day.
Down Texas way, ExxonMobil, Plains All-American Pipeline LP and Lotus Midstream LLC has formed the Wink to Webster Pipeline LLC joint venture, reportedly able to move 1 million barrels of oil per day from West Texas to the Texas Gulf Coast by 2021.
Plains will lead project construction on behalf of the JV and has already initiated pre-construction activities. The JV anticipates the project will generate more than 3,100 construction jobs. Priority will be placed on utilizing existing pipeline corridors and advanced construction techniques to help limit community and environmental impacts.
