According to the Oilfield data aggregator Rig Locator, Saskatchwan's drilling rig fleet started 2020 strong with 57 rigs making hole by the afternoon of January 6th.
This was an impressive jump of 19 rigs compared to the website's last report on January 3rd.
Activity seemed to be from many areas across the provice, with groups of rigs showing up throughout much of SE Sask, at Shaunavon, and North of Highways 16 near Lloydminster.
Perhaps most curious, however, was a string of activity along the Alberta border from Alsask to Macklin.
All totaled, the result was 54% utilization rate with 57 of 105 rigs working - a superior rate than Alberta whose 45% included 165 of 366 rigs, and British Columbia who only had 18 of 40 rigs running.
By contrast, Manitoba boasted 5 of 6 rigs working for an 83% utilization rate.
While impressive, Canada's national drilling fleet has continued to decline, dropping from 549 to 532 on in December from November, and a decline from 800 6 years ago.
