The total number of rigs operating in the US grew by 12 last week, according to the Baker Hughes weekly rig count.
There are currently 952 rigs currently operating in the US, 931 of which are land-based and the remaining 21 offshore. All 12 new rigs were onshore.
Four went to Alaska, doubling the count from four to eight. Two were added in Louisiana, one in Montana, and one in Nebraska. Oklahoma added four rigs, bringing its total count to 136. Drilling behemoth Texas added two, bringing its count to 463. Utah and New Mexico both lost one rig each.
The number of rigs targeting oil-zones increased by seven and gas-targeting rigs increased by five.
In the basins tracked by Baker, the Arkoma added one rig and the Cana Woodford added four. The Granite Wash and the Haynesville both added two rigs. The Mississippian and the Permian both lost one, bringing the counts to six and 369, respectively.
Miscellaneous unlisted basins added five rigs.
Three vertical rigs went offline, with directional rigs and horizontal rigs increasing by three and 12, respectively.
In Canada, the rig count decreased by 14, with seven oil-targeting and seven gas-targeting rigs coming offline.
